Been in Omaha about a week and a half. Been kinda busy so I haven’t updated my blog here. So far, we’re liking it. We’re a lot closer to things than we were in Illinois so that’s a plus. We went to the Taste of Omaha on Saturday. It was OK. They should hold that event on FLAT surface. Eating while climbing hills isn’t a good thing. It was pretty though, near the riverfront. It was hot, but there was a good wind so it was bearable. We’ve had some severe weather since we’ve been here. Luckily we haven’t had any damage in our neighborhood. We had two tornados early Sunday morning, but neither were in our area. No one was seriously hurt but there’s been some property damage. The move went OK. We’re still unpacking and organizing. Still looking for jobs. Wish us luck on that front. I’ll post apartment pix once I can take some that don’t show the place being a total mess. Hobbs is adjusting just fine. He spent the first day or so exploring and figuring things out. Now he’s back on a regular napping schedule.
Today is my last day at my company. Wow. Ten years. Hmm.
So after I leave today I won’t have internet until we get it set up in Omaha. This is my last post as an Illinois resident. Wish us luck and good driving weather!
I always said I would never get another new car and I’d never go back to a 4 cyl again. Today I did both. I bought a brand new, 2009 Toyota Corolla. Gas was just flipping killing me. Having an SUV is nice, but we don’t use it enough to haul things to make it worth the extra money I’m spending in gas. So here she is! I haven’t named her yet.
Do you um… twitter? Cuz I do. Click here!!
See this story.
Here’s a blurb:
In the 2000 presidential race, Florida made the difference. In 2004, it was Ohio. This year could it all come down to just a single city, Omaha, Neb., and its suburbs?
See? We have to move. Simple strategy right there. Click on the link to get the full story.
I’ve been horrible about updating my blog. So here’s everything that’s going on.
Yesterday afternoon my dad’s house caught fire. He’s OK. The house is still standing, but the damage is pretty extensive. It’s just, shocking, you know? That’s the house I grew up in. He remodeled that house when we were kids, basically rebuilt the whole thing. It’s hard to see all his work destroyed like that. He’s staying with some neighbors for awhile, they have a little apartment like thing in their basement. Our house is next door, but it’s really small. Our internet and satellite both feed off of his so we’ll be without for awhile. If you email me, it may take a day or so for me to get it since I only have internet at work. I’m glad my dad wasn’t hurt, things could have been so much worse. His cat, Rogue, did not fair so well. We think the smoke got to her. We just hope she didn’t suffer.
This morning I was walking to my cube. It was pretty quiet, since I get to work early, and since most folks work from home on Fridays. My hands were full and I felt my underwear creeping down my ass. I figured that the elastic band must be going and figured that I’d just fix it when I got to my cube. I didn’t make it that far. All of a sudden, it’s not just me knickers falling off my ass, my jeans fell down around my ankles. I have no idea how this happened. And no, I haven’t lost that much weight. Maybe I forgot to button up and zip. Who knows. I wouldn’t put it past myself. So I was basically standing in the middle of the office with my ass hanging out. Nice. I quickly ducked into an empty office and closed the door. Thank dog I didn’t trip on my pants and end up flat on my face with my ass pointed up for all the world to see. I pulled up my pants, put on a brave face and walked to my desk. I don’t think anyone saw me, but who knows. No one said anything. I’m just going to live out the rest of my life believing no one got a free peep show.
OK so I haven’t posted here in, oh, a month. Wow. That’s a long time. I honestly didn’t realize it had been that long. So here’s a quick run down of my month:
That’s all I’ve got for now. Aren’t you just glad that I’m still alive?
So we went on a four night Royal Carribean cruise last week. We had ports in Nassau, Coco Cay (RCCL’s private island), and Key West. We had to skip Coco Cay because it’s a anchor and tender kind of thing instead of a docking port. The seas were too rough. If you don’t believe me, check out this video I took:
All in all, we had a nice time. The weather was beautiful, of course. The food could have been better, but it wasn’t horrible. Here’s a link to the rest of our pictures, if you’d like to check them out.

Finally, Vacation Information!
- My dad found a place to live until his house is livable again. Right now he’s not sure if he wants the contractor to do the work, do it himself, or find a contractor of his own. Insurance has been unbelievably slow. You know those commercials that make it seem like it all happens fast? Yeah, no, it does not.
- My brother got married last night! We had the most beautiful weather here yesterday, it was the perfect day for a wedding. They’re off on their honeymoon now. Congrats to the newlyweds!
- We’re still planning on moving at the end of this month. If I have your home address you’ll probably get a change of address card. Eventually.
- My car, Eirwyn, needs to be traded in. I’ve had a suspension problem for awhile, and now I have an electrical problem. And I need new tires. I’ve decided to get a new one instead of fixing her. I’m paying more a month in gas than I am on my car payment, so I’m going to get something that’s a bit more fuel efficient.
- I quit my job! YAY! My last day is May 30. I can NOT wait!
- DH and I went to Omaha in the middle of the month to check the place out. We liked it and thus, it is official, we are moving
- On the drive back we stopped off in Riverside, Iowa which is due south of Iowa City. What’s there, you might ask, oh, you know, just the future birthplace of Captain James T. Kirk. No. Seriously.
- I’ve also been looking for a job out west. My boss knows about this so that’s why this isn’t password protected. I had an interview on Monday. I had to fly in for that. I did some other sight-seeing while I was there. I need to upload those photos though. I’m hoping to hear soon about the job. Wish me luck!
- Most importantly, today is National Grilled Cheese Day and April is National Grilled Cheese Month. Be sure you observe properly!
